Mayweather Sides with Yuriorkis Gamboa
Floyd Mayweather Jr. has come out with his opinion about the ongoing legal tussle between the Las Vegas based fight promotional company Top Rank and the former champion Yuriorkis Gamboa, who has a total record of 21-0, with 16 knockout victories. The company filed a federal lawsuit against the former champion back in March in the state of Nevada in the United States of America, where the company functions from. The basis of the lawsuit, as alleged by the company is a ‘breach of contract’ on the part of Gamboa and the promotional company is looking to recover the damages that they have had to face thanks to Gamboa.
The beginning of this mess has been traced back when Yuriorkis Gamboa moved up two weight divisions and was scheduled to take part in a fight against Brendan Rios, who has a record of 30-0-1 with 22 knockouts in a televised main event of HBO but he decided to no-show at the press conferences ahead of the fight in Los Angeles and in Miami and he refused to fight as well, citing differences of opinion against Top Rank as well as Arena Box’s Ahmet Oner.
Due to this situation, Top Rank confirmed Rios to fight against Richard Abril. According to the legal papers of Top Rank, the company is said to have agreed to all the stipulations laid before them by Gamboa but his unwillingness to keep his side of the bargain has forced them to file the lawsuit.
It is being believed that several members of Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s own promotion company persuaded Yuriorkis Gamboa to walk away from this fight and as a result, Mayweather has been so vocal about Bob Arum and his company trying to ruin a fighter’s reputation with federal lawsuits and poor remarks about them.
